Most house moves happen on the last Friday of the month between June and August. That's also the most expensive moment to move. Here's the calendar from a removals firm's perspective.

Cheapest months

November, January and February — outside chain-completion peaks and away from school holidays. Expect 15–25% lower quotes.

Cheapest day of the week

Tuesday or Wednesday. Friday is busiest and most expensive.

Cheapest time of month

Mid-month. Last working day of the month is the busiest and slowest.

Avoid if possible

  • Last Friday before the August bank holiday
  • Last Friday in March (end of tax year)
  • Move dates that clash with major sporting events affecting M1/M6 traffic
