Storage facilities sell space — and an oversized unit can quietly add 50% to your bill. This is the cheat-sheet our move coordinators use.

Property-to-unit cheat sheet

  • Studio / 1-bed flat: 25 sq ft
  • 2-bed flat: 50 sq ft
  • 3-bed semi: 75–100 sq ft
  • 4-bed family home: 125–150 sq ft
  • 5-bed+: 200 sq ft or container

Things that change the maths

  • Bulky garden furniture or BBQs (+25 sq ft)
  • Pianos, pool tables (always size up)
  • Wardrobes you don't want flat-packed (+15%)
  • Bikes, prams, scooters in the hallway

Pack like a Tetris player

Stack heaviest at the back, lightest near the door, and leave a 30cm walkway. Good packing can cut your unit size by a full bracket.

Frequently asked questions

Will the storage company size it for me?

A reputable provider will. Walk away from anyone trying to upsell you without seeing your inventory.
