You don't have to switch suppliers when you move — but you do have to give them notice. Here's the 30-minute version.

Gas and electricity

Take meter readings on move day at both properties. Email them to your supplier within 48 hours. Open accounts with the new property's incumbent supplier (you'll switch later if you want).

Water

Inform Anglian/Severn Trent/Thames depending on region. Single phone call.

Broadband

Give your provider 30 days' notice. Some will move the contract, some require a new one. Check whether the new property has fibre.

Council tax

Notify both councils online — closing account at old address, opening at new.

Royal Mail redirect

£40+ for 12 months. Worth it.

DVLA

Free. Update driving licence and vehicle log book online — you'll be fined £1,000 if you don't.
